Overview:
I am a dedicated music professional carrying 20 years of musical education and 15 years of musical performance.  In 2011, I graducated from Frostburg State University with my Bachelor's in music education with a percussion focus.  I have been touring the country with bands since 2012, and have been recording just as long.  Performing is a crucial part of my life and I have been fortunate enough to open for bands like, Flowbots, Man-Man, and Real Estate, as well as having recorded in studio with world class musicians such as Anita Thomas.  I play all instruments to some extent, but I am most comfortable behind a drum-set (although trumpet and piano are close runners up).  Having worked with many students of all ages and walks of life, my other passion is teaching and I find endless joy in watching my students learn and grow into musicians.
EXPERIENCE
As for teaching, I began when I was only in high school.  I worked at a community theatre assisting an acting coach with her paper work, but more importantly; her classwork.  Performing on stage theatrically transitioned into performing on stage musically.  I began classes at Frostburg State University in music education.  After recieving my degree I taught special education, substitute taught music, and taught private lessons.  I have taught lessons ranging from guitar, bass, drums, mallet percussion, trumpet, trombone, and euphonium.  For a short time I even tought marching and brasswinds for a high school band. Whatever I teach, I always make sure the student is having a good time!
METHODS USED
All students are different, and all people learn differently.  That being said, I make sure to teach all of my students in a unique way. Many students want to learn piano for instance, but if the student has a problem with rhythm, I would move away from the piano and play exercises that involve clapping, singing, or anything the student needs to first understand rhythm.  The foundations must first be grasped and the students performance will only get better.  Though I teach to the student's needs, I am open to ideas if it benefits the student.  As for lesson books and materials, I tend to wait until the second lesson so I can evaluate the student's level.
LESSON STYLE
I am always trying to have fun in my lessons!  I know that some students go to school all day and sometimes are exhausted by lesson time.  Instead of drilling the student, I let him/her set goals that are reachable.  Every week they can see the progress they've made without ever feeling discouraged that they didn't reach a certain number in a method book.  I stand for hard work, and know that any student can succeed using my method. More recently I have taken an aural approach to teaching that is similar to the Suzuki Methid of teaching. More information about my teaching style will be noted at intake.
