Hello! I am a performer, singer, and composer who works with a variety of types of music. My favorite genres of music are Classical and Indie, but I love teaching and learning about all kinds of music! My main instrument is voice, which I have a lot of experience with, but I also teach beginner piano and advanced ukulele, along with composing, songwriting, and arranging. I have performed all over the country, and I am always welcoming new opportunities to learn and grow with my students. I specialize in helping people understand and connect to their favorite music even more, as well as how to use their voices healthily and efficiently. I am excited to get to know you!
I have been teaching voice and composition for about ten years, and have picked up piano in the last five. I encourage students to explore their voices in healthy ways. We so often do not think about how our voices work so hard for us! I have a background in voice pedagogy and aesthetics, which I bring to my lessons whenever possible. I have two degrees in music education-a bachelor's from The College of Saint Rose, and a master's from the State University of New York at Potsdam-and a doctorate in voice performance from the University of Washington. My dissertation specifically focuses on musical aesthetics, the study of the beautiful in music. Let's make some beautiful music together!
My teaching style is tailored to each individual student's learning style. Some learn more creatively, some learn with facts and figures, and some learn by practice. I use my first lesson to get to know the student as an individual learner so they can flourish in my studio. Oftentimes I will teach using projects, some days we will work on repertoire, others we will compose, and still others we will work on understanding the symbols of music. At this point in my teaching career, I have developed a keen sense of what the student needs that day and will use that knowledge to build them to be their best musical selves.
My goal is to have the students of my studio leave our lessons fulfilled and happy, having learned something they can use in their everyday lives. Music is an everyday activity, whether it is humming or whistling a tune, or a daily session of playing an instrument. Music is everywhere if you know where to find it! Students in my studio will work on accessing their most musical selves and work on more deeply connecting to the beauty and fun of music in a variety of circumstances. More specific to voice, I teach from a fact-based pedagogical approach, helping singers sing more freely and efficiently in their preferred style. My teaching spans many genres, so I am sure we will work great together!
My 7 year old daughter has been taking lessons with Chris for about 6 months now. Her skills have grown by leaps and bounds in just a short period of time. Even more importantly, she loves it. She starts looking forward to her next lesson the minute she ends one! Chris is a gifted teacher whom I highly recommend.
My grandchildren have had the priviledge to work with Chris while he was an instructor at their elementary school. Two years ago one of them chose to take voice lessons and Chris was our first choice. I feel Chris is an excellent instructor always taking the time ot insure that my grandchild is getting the most out of each lesson. He is patient and encouraging. It is always a joy to listen to my grandchild take steps with Chris's instruction to further his musical availability. We are blessed to have him as an instructor.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
