Welcome to Mr. B's studio! I am a twelve year veteran instrumental music teacher who truly loves educating young musicians. I have performed and taught all over the country as a trombonist and educator. Some of my career highlights include performances with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Tales & Scales Inc., Ray Charles and his orchestra, as well as working with numerous orchestras, chamber ensembles, and jazz ensembles in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. My biggest joy comes from my students achieving new heights in their own playing.
My teaching life began as a college graduate who became a member of Tales & Scales Inc. which is a performing and educating ensemble who tours the country performing for children of all ages. Part of the work I did involved workshops with students showing them how music and stories worked together. That experience told me that I wanted to be a music educator. In the years that followed, I taught instrumental music in numerous parochial schools throughout New Jersey. Currently, I am the Director of Bands at Maplewood Middle School where I try and cultivate an enviroment of learning, understanding, and music-making. I love what I do and I look forward to teaching all of my new Musika students!
My method of teaching is very simple: get to know each student's strengths and where they need attention in their playing. Every one of my students will love the time they spend learning their given instrument. My goal is to make every student I teach an independent musician who can flourish in any musical setting. This independence comes from solid fundamentals of Sound, Note- Reading, and Rhythm-Reading. These three concepts lead to a love of music and music-making.
My teaching style comes from a love of music and family. Every student I teach becomes part of a musical family that I've been a part of for over 30 years. I take the time to get to know my students which makes me able to tailor their music education specifically to their needs and likes. As a student progresses, I make sure that they realize the special work that they do and how it can impact their life. Every student I teach is distinct in their abilities which means I have to customize my teaching to them.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
