One day I woke and I wanted to do more for myself. I have a career and a great life. I wanted something that was just for me though. I went and bought a guitar and just started taking lessons. I was 28. Most people think you have to start young to learn an instrument. I wish I had started when I was younger but now, I have three years of experience. Hundreds of hours in front of crowds and a lot of friends I have met along the way. I own a software development company. I keep a guitar in my office and play on my breaks through out the day. This is a great way to relax my mind.
My teaching experience predates my guitar playing. For over a decade I was a personal trainer. I have trained people from all walks of life, at various fitness levels. Although personal training is far different from guitar, the teaching style is similar. As an instructor, you have many people who are starting at different levels. It's your job as the instructor to assess and challenge them. Goal setting is very big with me. Short term and long term goals are great. With out the proper goal students do not have anything to reach towards.
For beginners, I start with the basics. Many people just want to start learning strumming and chords. While that is fine, I have encountered many musicians who have a hard time playing more than ten minutes with out being in pain. Their hands, fingers, shoulders, you name it. I teach to get intimate with the guitar. Keep the guitar close, and don't be afraid of it. Many times I see an adult who has been playing for years and they need some guidance and I always start by assessing the basics. When a player gets the basics down, playing becomes fun and not a chore.
I'm very big on goal setting. Short term goals will be to learn a certain chord. Long term can be that really hard song, getting in front of a crowd, or something like that. Everyone has their own goals. When I started playing, there were songs I thought I would never learn. It took nearly two years for some of those as they were long term goals. Along the way I learned some fifty songs to play. Those short term goals really helped me get where I needed to be. I believe in having students set goals and helping them get accomplished.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
