I’m a passionate and motivated teacher who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. This spring I will graduate from the Colburn Conservatory with a Bachelor I’d Arts degree in Viola Performance. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experienced of my life as a musician. Recently, I have had the opportunity to give concerts in Denmark, Switzerland, and Canada as well as tour Scotland and Ireland apart of the Colburn Orchestra tour.
I have been running my own private studio since my high school years and am now currently enrolled as a Colburn Teaching Fellow at my college which entails teaching children from low income families in the Los Angles area. Encouraging regular practice in a consistent schedule is one of the most important points for a younger student to help progress and gain passion for the instrument. I encourage my students to enter youth or community orchestras, competitions, and recitals.
As a violist and violinist I grew up through Suzuki pedagogy and the Barbara Barber books. For beginning students who are young I typically start them using Suzuki also. Once they have progressed and have an understanding for the instrument I will begin to introduce extra pieces outside the Suzuki books that are appropriate for recitals and competitions. For Adults I try to find what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons fun and engaging.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs..
