Overview:
Beginning at age 10, I became very passionate about paying the drums. I heard Joe Morello from the The Dave Brubeck Quartet play a song on the album "Time Out" called Take Five played in 5/4 time. He played an amazing solo in that time signature. I became a fan of the drums at that time and started to take lessons immediately. My teacher was very adimate about the rudiments and time signatures. I learned all of them and started to teach in Babe Fabrizi's Drum shop while still taking lessons and playing live and doing studio work. I still watch videos giving lessons so I stay fresh. Playing live gigs up and down the east coast was awesome! Our band became a must see at various clubs and colleges. To this day I still do what is necessary: PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
EXPERIENCE
Started teaching at age 15 in the same drum shop I was taking lessons in. Continued teaching for five years until my schedule with playing live and being out of town made it difficult to commit to my students. I like to emphasize the importance of the rudiments. These are the cornerstone of playing all types of music. These will help my students with dexterity, and to build a vocabulary of styles. I try to make sure my students have a suitcase full of vocabulary, tools and special styles so they are ready to play anything they are asked to.
METHODS USED
For beginners it is drum pad playing only learning the drum rudiments. I expect practice so that the next lesson shows improvement. I teach each student differently according to their skill set. I then move on to the lesson book "Stick Control" by George Leonard Stone. I suggest all students purchase this book after we get the rudiments in place. If you read up on this book, you will find that all the great drummers have and use this use this exercise book no matter where they are in their career or skill set. For the more advanced student, I have them play the rudiments and read some more advanced music to assess their progress and skill set. Then onto more practice pad with advanced lessons and refresher courses. If the student has a drum set, we will go over basic beats and rhythms along with moving around the set with proper posture and arm/hand movement.
LESSON STYLE
Each student is different. I need at least two lessons to asses their skill level and style. We then move on from there. Beginners are my favorite. It is very rewarding to watch the progress and the passion build for music. I try my very best to keep the student engaged and to really listen to the music the he or she is leaning towards. I move in that direction with each student, but continue to practice reading and playing the rudiments to keep up the dexterity and control of each limb. It is very important to me that the student tells me what he or she wants out of the lessons. PLEASE NOTE: ALL TIMES LISTED BELOW ARE CENTRAL TIME, AS I AM IN LUBBOCK TEXAS.

My son is loving drum lessons with Carl. He is patient and funny and my son has made such progress in the weeks we’ve been going. Most importantly, he’s having fun and gaining confidence! We look forward to them each week!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
