2013 - University of South Florida Assistantship 2015 - Best San Francisco upcoming artist
Hello! My name is Caleb. I am a saxophonist and composer from the San Francisco Bay Area. I started playing saxophone professionally at 16 years old it has brought me all around the world. I have performed with many jazz stars including Joshua Redman, Maria Schneider, and Ralph Bowen as well countless entertainers during my stint playing music for Royal Caribbean Cruises. I would like to share some of my tips and secrets with a new batch of students eager to take the next step in their musical journey. I teach mostly saxophone lessons, but can also teach about woodwind doubling as well as music theory. Thank you and I look forward to making my students the best they can be.
I have taught music lessons privately and I'm looking to attain more students via this website. While traveling, it was difficult to establish a homebase for lessons, but now that I'm not moving around as much, I am pursuing this as a bigger focus in my life. My main goal is that the student is "playing" music, which means that they like what they are doing when the pick up their instrument. Playing wood winds are hard, but if the effort is there, they can sound like they are as easy as breathing. That's what I want to give students: when they perform, everything they want to convey will come out easily and musically inclined.
My passion is for the student to figure out WHY they like certain musical ideas but not others and how to implement the sounds in his or her playing. That means we will be transcribing, practicing scales, working on etudes, memorizing tunes, long tones, and harmonics training to start. If needed, we will also talk about some music theory so we both can use the same terms, such as ii-V-I and bebop scale. I have performed MANY different genres and would be open to techniques that would give students the best possible way to sound desirable.
I am a pretty relaxed guy, so that goes the same for my teaching. However, I am also quite prideful of what I do, and I would bring my best to each lesson, and I would expect my students to do the same thing. My favorite teachers were always forcing me to learn new things, and I would hope to convey that in my classes. Being constantly prepared would be required, but the "right answer" would be finding your sound, not what I believe your sound should be. I try to be funny and open about what I'm struggling with as well because no matter how talented you are, music is still difficult to harness, and perfecting it takes constant little adjustments.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
