I am a caring and encouraging music teacher who loves sharing my inspiration with students. I received a degree in Music Education from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 2012 and since then have been teaching and playing in various forms throughout Colorado. I had interest in music, and drumming specifically, from the early age of 10, when I first started playing. Music has always been a very rewarding activity for me. One that not only allows me to express creativity, but also to learn many life lessons. I feel it greatly enriched my youth and continues to enrich my life, so I love using my time to share it with others.
My teaching experience began during my college days, when I began teaching privately out of a studio in Lousiville. After graduation I began teaching in public schools along with my private teaching work. Although I value both public and private teaching, I have always appreciated private teaching greatly because it gives the opportunity to work very personally with each student according to their ability, interests and learning style. I have experience with a wide variety of musical styles although my main focus areas have been Jazz drumming, classical percussion and marching percussion. I encourage students to find what musical styles interest them while also helping them gain an appreciation for different styles that they can learn from and broaden their horizons.
For beginning students, I generally like to work with them on understanding musical basics like rhythm and beat aurally before working out of any books. I use call and response methods and teach students various different exercises and games to get them playing and understanding music as a language. Once students have this understanding and are more at intermediate levels, I start working more on reading rhythms and melodies and working out of various drumming books as well as playing along with music. For advanced students, I focus on doing more listening to professional drummers, studying into specific styles and grooves and transcribing music to learn from the greats.
My teaching style is both personalized and individualized as well as systematic and thorough. I try to see that my students are always inspired and enthusiastic about what we are doing by working with each student according to the level they are at and asking them about their interests and goals. Simultaneously, I want to see my students progress holistically in their understanding and skills of musical styles. Generally I spend some time at the beginning of each lesson working on fundamentals like drumming rudiments, musical theory and rhythm and then go on to work more individually on specific songs or drumming books according to the student's interests.
Bryan is an excellent teacher! he’s very knowledgeable, kind ,caring and professional. He’s able to customize each lesson to fit my exact needs and help me improve in the areas where I’m struggling. Learning the drums can be kind of intimidating so I really appreciate his abundance of patience , calmness and his ability to explain things in ways that I can understand while at the same time keeping it fun, exciting and fresh. He has revamped my love for the drums and I would highly recommend him as a teacher.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
OkAre you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
