ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
BM, Western Connecticut State University, Jazz Studies Percussion
Overview:
I'm a 28 year old professional musician who has been playing drums and percussion for the last 14 years. I've taught for a respected music studio in Connecticut and I continue to teach here in Los Angeles. I have played in numerous bands and toured the United States, Europe and Central America. The styles I teach are Rock, Jazz, Latin, R&B/Hip-Hop, Funk/Soul, and World Rhythms.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching drum lessons for the past 11 years to students of all ages.  I've always thought that learning should be fun. I consistently try to bring a creative and laid-back approach to teaching drums. After the first lesson, most students realize that I don't take myself too seriously. Sometimes certain techniques or exercises can be tiresome or even boring. When this occurs, I switch gears and move on to something else. In my opinion, if a student is getting very frustrated it is generally best to relax and try a different exercise or beat. If we can't enjoy ourselves then what is the point?!
METHODS USED
During lessons, first I focus on a student's natural sense of time and feel.  Once a basic internal time is established I will move on to various reading exercises and rhythms.  I like to begin most students off on Buddy Rich's Snare Drum Rudiments.  I have started off teaching many students who only had a drum pad and a pair of sticks. While it is recommended that a student have a basic drum set, it is certainly not necessary in the beginning.  If you want to learn hand percussion and have not yet purchased a drum...I can bring an extra drum for the lesson. It is advisable to get something sooner than later of course!
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music, especially drumming and rhythm! In my mind, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace.  I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each drum lesson.  Acknowledging a student's accomplishments helps fuel their desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.  Once I figure out what inspires my students, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
