Overview:
I'm a fun-loving teacher who loves to teach all levels of students. I started teaching when I was a Sophmore in High school and also worked with children in a Montessori school as a brass coach. I knew that I loved working with children as well as helping students to begin an instrument. I graduated from Chapman University in 2010 with my Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and Performance on French horn. I have performed and toured all over California as well as the Sydney Opera House in Australia. I most recently received my masters degree in music performance from UCLA. There I was able to be a music teacher with the music outreach program, where I went to underprivileged schools and taught students on a group or one-on-one level. I cannot wait to meet you or your child to help them grow and love music like I do!
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching when I was a 15 and a sophomore in high school. I taught some students in elementary school and also worked in a Montessori school as a brass coach. I moved to Orange County to go to school at Chapman University and then moved to Los Angeles. Since living in Los Angeles for now 6 years, I have been able to create my own music studio. Most of my students I have had for at least 3 years or more. I like to teach to what the students like to play. I have a classical background but I have also performed in the genres of pop, musical theater, and opera. When I was in high school, I played trumpet with the Jazz band so I have Jazz, Blues, swing, etc. experience as well. If the student in is a band at school, I like to help them with their practicing and give them tools to play confidently and have fun! If students are just taking lessons for fun, I like to play what they would like to play as well as add some of my favorite pieces. I am excited to have the opportunity to help another young musician learn to love music!
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I like to start with Standard of Excellence. I also play with a great tool called Smart Music, a program that has some wonderful tools for practicing. Parents are welcome to purchase this program for a low-once a year cost, to encourage their children to practice.  For adults, I like to start with theory and some easy beginning pieces on Smart Music. Once we have a solid foundation of music and theory, I like to help students perform music that they would like to play.  My belief is that there is always something for everyone to play, we just have to find it! Although I have these options, I am open to other books and often find music off the internet.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is fun loving and educational. I like to make sure each student is having fun and learning while playing music. Music is a universal language and can be taught to students of all ages. I hope to bring this music to life and have students want to practice and have fun while playing. There is nothing that is more rewarding than having students smile after completing a piece. I also expect the student to practice our music at home/complete the give assignments by me. As much as I love teaching, I can only go at the speed and dedication that the student is willing to put in. I hope that I can convey my passion and love for music to each student I teach!
