My goal is to help students achieve their own personal goals both as musicians and as people. I graduated from Western Oregon University with my Bacholor of Music degree, emphasis in flute performance. I have had the amazing opportunity to travel and perform all over the world in locations such as Carnegie Hall in New York, and these experiences have shaped me into the professional I am today. I play several instruments in several styles and am willing teach whatever my students want to learn.
I began teaching music privately over 10 years ago in my own studio. Since then, I have gained experience teaching musical summer camps, in public school classroom settings, as well as masterclasses for students of all ages and abilities. I love working with individuals who have a strong desire to learn and the work ethic it takes to persevere. My students are dynamic and diverse, studying music ranging from original personal compositions to classical literature. The goal is to make music fun!
In the immortal words of Henry David Thoreau, "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." Everyone has a different learning style, a different outlook on life. As such, I create custom lesson plans tailored to each individual player's goals. All students generally start with a solid foundation of fundamentals, which includes both playing technique as well as music theory. Then, at the pace of the student, I introduce solo literature and etudes in the musical style they are most interested in learning. Literature is chosen with specific teaching goals in mind. Each lesson is designed to be engaging, positive, and most importantly, FUN! After each lesson, my students take a "homework" list for practice purposes which is designed to be the topic of the next week's lesson.
I encourage every student to have an end goal, whether it be a career in music or simply learning music as a medium to enrich their lives. It is my job as a teacher to be the vehicle to that success. I set realistic stepping stone goals meant to stretch each student artistically, provide a positive and safe learning environment, and sucessfully run lessons to lead each person in the direction they want to go. I love positive reinforcement and I continually acknowledge accomplishments to fuel a strong desire for learning.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
