Overview:
Music makes my world go around in many forms. I have played professionally for all of my adult life and have loved every moment of it. I have performed on national tours, played around the world, shared the stage with major acts of all genres including The Shins, The Foo Fighters, Echo and the Bunnymen, and many more, as well as played large festivals with crowds in the tens of thousands. Working as a studio guitarist, drummer, and pianist were also wonderful experiences. I live and breathe music in all forms, including teaching. I command extensive musical theory knowledge and know-how coupled with a wealth of field experience that I am only too eager to share!
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching 5 years ago while living in Austin, TX after the record deal that my project held fell apart. What may have started as an extra way to earn income quickly became a love and a passion. Playing music for people is an excellent way of sharing it, but teaching brings it to an entirely new level. There is nothing quite like seeing a musical newcomer unlock something within themselves that they may have not even realized was there. Over the course of my teaching career I have brought many new performers into the world of music. A couple of my former students have even begun to teach as well. Tempering good practice and learning habits with energetic fun can make for the perfect blend to crafting a new, or experienced, musical mind.
METHODS USED
For young children, the main idea is to have music and its elements be a fundamental part of their mental development. It is important for them to want to pursue and unlock it themselves. Making it fun and rewarding can help greatly. For older children, I like to try and instill a sense of identity with the music that they may like and blend the technical knowledge with gearing towards the work of artists, musicians, or composers that they enjoy. Learn the fundamentals and then move towards applying it quickly to keep eagerness high. With adults of any ability level, it is important that all the gaps in the fundamentals are filled in so as to be fully equipped to move into any goals that the student has and then move towards those goals together in a fun and stress-free way.
LESSON STYLE
To me, teaching is not stiffly sitting in a drab room while a teacher lectures a student. I prefer to look at it as having the good fortune to meet somebody who is truly interested in entering the realm of music and has asked me to help them. It can be daunting walking into your first lesson or trying something new, so I like to make it as relaxed as possible while still progressing and succeeding at a desired pace. Thoroughness beats speed! There is nothing like seeing someone's eyes light up as they witness themself succeed in music.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
