Overview:
Hello! My name is Andrew Rosen. Cello has been my passion since the age of 9 when I began in public school like many students do today. It is my wish to share what I have learned from my mentors over the past 15 years of honing my craft as well as instill the love that I have for music with my students. I received my Bachelors of Music in cello Performance at DePaul University where I studied with Stephen Balderston. I attended The Hartt School where I received My Masters of Music in Cello Performance under the tutelage of Mihai Tetel. I currently hold a cello studio at The Rectory School in Pomfret, CT. I perform regularly with the Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, CT Lyric Opera, and Divina Strings.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching cello my Junior year of highschool and have continued for the past 5 years. While attending DePaul University I studied Cello Pedagogy with Dr. Paula Kosower for three consecutive semesters. My time learning under her has allowed me to sculpt my own thoughts on the subject of teaching. I have learned through my various teachers that without support and understanding, it is difficult to accomplish anything. This is why I instill a supportive, open, and fun environment for my students. I love playing the cello, but more importantly, I love sharing my knowledge with others, whether it be in a lesson or even just a conversational setting. Everyone is welcome in my studio, I am eager to to share everything I have to offer with you!
METHODS USED
My philosophy centers on a healthy and fun environment for the student. For young beginners this would mean first establishing a proper physical set-up of the instrument as well as honing the fundamentals in fun and interesting ways. I believe in catering my teaching methods individually to fit each students interests and needs. I tend to pick and choose from a variety of method and repertoire books to compile a varied and interesting selection of pieces and studies. While I tend to have a set plan after the first lesson or two, students are more than welcome to bring pieces that they have a desire to learn (classical or popular) as long as they can prove to me the benifits of studying it. For adults, I would like to hear from you what it is you are hoping to achieve and then we will create a lesson plan around your goals and your schedule.
LESSON STYLE
The way I see it, what is the point of learning an instrument, if one doesn't have a love of music in general. I believe it is essential to have a love of all kinds of music, be it classical, rock, pop, or jazz. I encourage my students to listen to as much music as they can get there hands on, especially classical cello works. It is inspiring to know that any awesome piece you hear, you can learn with hard work and patience. I teach each student at their own pace, and together the student and I will set realistic goals both week by week, and long term ones that should be achieved by the end of a month or perhaps six. I understand that practicing is not always easy to accomplish both in terms of time and motivation as I am still a growing cellist, however I will hold my students to the same expectations that I hold myself, to do their best.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
