ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Bachelor Degree: Greensboro College
Awards:

2017 Religious Life Leader Award-Gospel Choir Director

Overview:
I'm a fun loving, passionate, motivated and caring instructor who loves working with students of all ages. I love the arts and being able to express myself through music. As well as being able to teach others to hone in on their love of music. I went to Weaver Academy for the Performing and Visual Arts for music in High School. Later on going to Greensboro College for Music-Vocal Performance and minoring in Piano and Religion. I have had the opportunity to perform in numerous operas, musicals, concerts, shows, and recitals (if you would like a copy of my performance resume or repertoire list please ask). I currently teach piano and voice students in addition to being heavily involved in High Point Community Theater-where I not only participate as an actress in their musicals but I Assistant Music Direct the Youth Stage Musicals.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience starts back in my days of college. I began teaching private piano and voice lessons to members of my church. I have taught group music lessons to Toddlers-Kindergarten in schools, as well as continuing my private lessons for voice and piano to the Junior High students. I helped reform the Greensboro College Gospel Choir and directed them in the last two years of my college career. Since then I have continued with my private piano and voice lessons. As well as adding on Assistant Music Directing Youth Stage Productions such as Mulan Jr. and Into the Woods Jr.
METHODS USED
I use a vairety of methods to teach my students. I follow them, their goals, and the parents goals. Piano For my beginner piano students I work primarily out of Alfred's Methodology Books. I also use fun music theory worksheets (that we do together in lessons and independently), games, and props. For students who are past the beginner stage I asses where they are and I go from there. At that point we work together to figure out their strengths, weakness, learn what area the students want to grow in and build upon the skills that they already have, as well as learning new skills. Voice

For my beginner voice students I use some of the Alfred Methodology Theory and Ear Training Books, The First Book of Sopranos, Altos, Tenors, Basses, The Singing Book, fun music theory worksheets (that we do in lessons together and independently), as well as starting to teach them the basics of singing and all that comes with singing-vocal health, theory, ear training, sight singing, and much more. For students past the beginner stage I asses where they are and I go from there. At that point we work together to figure out their strengths, weakness, learn what area the students want to grow in and build upon the skills that they already have, as well as learning new skills. I also help my students when it comes to performances, auditions, recitals, concerts, and shows.

LESSON STYLE
I love being able to see my students happy, and excited to learn. I want my students to progress at their own pace, make their own goals and strive to succeed. I encourage my students, provide them with a safe place to come to learn, express themselves, feel that they have someone on their side, have someone to talk to and count on, and know that they have a gift in which they are making stronger everyday. I love my students and think the world of them. I love making sure that they feel that and know it. I love teaching them not only music but about life skills, emotional skills, and how music can help them through so much that happens in life.
