I'm an award-winning singer and songwriter, but I LOVE to teach! My passion, more than anything else, is making sure that music is enjoyable and students gain a sense of confidence on their instrument. I do this by building strong, supportive relationships with my students and tailoring my teaching to help them achieve their goals, whether that's becoming a superstar "shower singer" or a professional gigging musician. My instruments are piano, voice, and guitar, but I also teach songwriting, music theory, and basic music production.
I have been playing the guitar since age 7, writing songs since 11, and singing since I can remember. My own music is a mix of pop and R&B, and I have been performing and writing professionally for the last 12 years, including gigging, releasing albums, and having my music licensed for use on a variety of TV channels. I have been teaching for the last 12 years as well. I have taught all ages (pre-k through high school, college, and adults), as a music teacher in schools, private lessons, choir directing and more. I love both performing and teaching, and am able to speak to my students about the professional side of music as well.
I am able to teach classical, rock, jazz, pop, gospel and R&B at a beginner/intermediate level. As someone who grew up playing music because of an innate joy and love for it, I also always allow my students' musical interests and goals to dictate the material we cover. I then use whatever material it is to pull different musical theories or concepts from them and teach a larger lesson that can then be applied to any future songs. This allows the student to remain engaged and excited in the lesson, while at the same time learning about broader musical concepts.
The feeling of making something I was playing sound exactly like what I heard on the radio was like a superpower to me growing up! And so I think it's my job to try to get my students to have that same feeling as they are beginning their musical journeys. I do this with a combination or learning how to read music and learning to play by ear. I enjoy emphasizing playing by ear because I think that makes music more accessible to beginning musicians, so developing their ability to hear music and know what it going on is an important skill that I work on with my students.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
