Overview:

I have been performing as a classical concert violinist, mostly in the Northeastern area for the past few years. I have performed as soloist with the West Islip Symphony, Yonkers Philharmonic, Tokyo Suginami Chamber Orchestra. Recital appearances include Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in the Young Musicians Concert sponsored by the MTNA League; Steinway Hall in New York; Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York; Bach-Archiv in Leipzig, Germany; and Konzertsaal in Bavaria. I have quite a lot of experience performing, and would be able to help students with understanding and communicating the intentions in the music to the audience. I am interested in Baroque performance practices as well, and have recently been studying and researching baroque music and performance practices, and performed all six of Bach's violin and keyboard works in a series of concert/lectures.

EXPERIENCE

I have been a classical concert violinist performing mostly in the Northeastern area for the past few years. I have more experience performing than teaching, but am passionate about music and have been interested in communciating the real meaning behind the composer's intentions in both my performances and in my conversations with the audience. I always explain my programs to audience members during the concert, and over the years, I have come to realize the importance of a musical education in all people's lives, whether or not they decide to take up music as their vocation. As a musician, my desire is to communicate the composer's intentions, and my desire as a teacher is to enable the student to find the joy and meaning of the music themselves.

METHODS USED

I am most interested in having students who want to play because they love music, no matter what their skill level. I do not believe in having a "method" or a "technique." The only thing I do believe in is that the student must have a desire to communicate and wish to find the best way to use their instrument to make their instrument "speak" or "sing." Music should be a part of their lives - so if they are beginners, I want them to listen to different kinds music (not just their particular instrument) and find their tastes. I enjoy teaching adults as well as children. If they are more advanced, then I wish to help them find or cultivate their voice and style further. I recommend reading and listening to old musicians - Cortot, Rachmaninoff, Kreisler, etc.

LESSON STYLE

As I said above, I do not have a "method" or "technique." I don't believe that technique should be the end goal, but a means to an end. Ultimately, the need to communicate is up to the student and the teacher's job is to help the student do so.
