The voice is the only instrument which actively requires the use of your entire body for its function. This is why maintaining the health of your body in general is crucial to maintaining the health of your voice. Smoking, excessive drinking of alcohol, caffeine, and the use of illeagal drugs or certain medications is strongly discouraged. Singers are encouraged to drink room temperature water to promote the hydration of their vocal chords. Excessive screaming, loud singing, or singing for long amounts of time without a rest can cause damage to your voice, and should be avoided. It is important to eat a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins to keep your whole body and voice healthy. Daily exercise is strongly encouraged, especially activities that require the use of your lungs such as swimming, running, cycling, or aerobics classes, all of which will increase your breath control capacity when singing.
We offer one on one voice lessons in home for students. This offers a practical way to learn the art of singing. Our teachers customize their lesson plan to work with your needs and goals. Lessons are generally once a week and are tailored around your schedule.
Musika vocal lessons will be based on teaching students good, safe vocal technique that can be applied to a wide range of musical genres and singing styles. Students of all abilities and experience will be catered for, as lessons are devised to suit the requirements of each individual student. Beginner students will work on their pitch, tone and vocal range by doing various different exercises such as sirens, singing different vowels along a scale and learning how to properly support the voice through breath management. These exercises are designed to build strength, timing and coordination in order to traverse the passagio, allowing students to sing notes in their head voice register, thus extending their range. Students can also develop their song interpretation skills, performance techniques and style development. As students advance, they can learn techniques and skills such as messa di voce, runs and fills, vibrato and genre-specific techniques like distortion in Rock singing or covering the voice for Musical Theatre or Classical singing.
Learning how to sing can be a great musical endeavor for adults of all ages. Lessons are customized with the specific goals of the student in mind, and focus around learning safe, effective and contemporary vocal techniques. For many students, taking lessons is about finding a new hobby or getting to practice something they have always enjoyed doing. When your child asks for voice lessons, make sure he or she is emotionally and physically mature enough. Before puberty, a child-™s voice is not yet ready for the strain of prolonged and regular vocal training. The voice could undergo permanent damage if you start lessons too soon. Instead, wait until your child is at least 11 or 12 years old. Waiting until the recommended age to start voice lessons increases your child-™s ability to succeed while mastering the art of singing. It also protects your child-™s voice so he or she can perform in the future.
