More Information About Voice Lessons

A healthy voice requires a healthy body. Start by exercising every day. Swimming, running and playing sports improve your body, lungs and heart health and lead to a healthy voice. Then eat a nutritious diet. Load up on vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Limit sugar, caffeine and alcohol. You-™ll also want to stop smoking because it damages your voice. Rest is also important. Make time to get enough sleep every night, and try to reduce stress. Rest your voice too by avoiding yelling, screaming or cheering. As you care for your body, you also care for your voice and keep it strong and healthy.
Whether you sing for pleasure or sing professionally, you need voice lessons. They help you learn everything you need to know about using your singing instrument. From caring for your voice to selecting music, a voice instructor teaches you want you need to know. Yet you don-™t need to travel to a professional studio to learn how to sing. Musika instructors come to your home. They use your piano or keyboard to share their professional and experienced instruction. With in-home voice lessons, prepare for performances or practice projections while saving time and staying comfortable. Then practice everything you learned for a living or for fun.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student, so no two students' lesson plans will be identical. Topics covered during Musika's voice lessons may include, but are not limited to: proper breath control technique and how to support your voice, how to read music, how to interpret various styles of singing (classical, jazz, pop, etc.), performance tips and techniques, how to overcome stage fright, and most importantly, learning to enjoy music and express yourself through singing!
Our adult voice lessons are taught by qualified teachers who will come up with an individual lesson plan suited to your goals and needs. Our teachers specialize in many genres of music from classical to contemporary and can offer you practical techniques and suggestions for your performing and musical goals. Voice lessons are structured to include time for warm ups, technique exercises, and repertoire study. Adults take a 45 minute or hour lesson once a week.
For children who want to learn how to sing, we recommend beginning voice lessons at age 11 or 12. The vocal instrument, unlike other instruments, is attached to the body. Starting voice lessons too young, or when the student is not emotionally ready or mature, can lead to vocal damage or strain. Many of our instructors are capable of working with younger students under the recommended age, but it is our opinion, and the opinion of many other Vocal Education professionals, that the student should wait until their body has begun the process of puberty before beginning voice lessons.
