More Information About Voice Lessons

Singing is a physical endeavor that requires effort, strength and coordination. The best way to ensure good vocal health is to sing and train using safe techniques. Bad technique or abusing the voice can cause vocal fatigue or even damage, such as nodules. The quickest and easiest way to wear out the voice is through shouting, screaming, or forcing the voice - often in order to sing higher notes. By avoiding such bad habits, as well as by limiting the consumption of vocal irritants such as alcohol, tobacco and food with a high sugar content, singer reduce the risk of injury or vocal fatigue
Musika offers one-on-one, in-home singing lessons that are designed specifically for each individual student. Whether your lesson takes place in the studio or at home, students will get the exact same lesson content, with the only difference being the location. Parents will find home singing lessons a much more convenient option for their child, as it saves the time and costs of transporting their children to and from the studio. Younger students will find that learning to sing in the comfort of their own homes greatly benefits their development as they are learning in a supportive, secure and familiar environment.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student, so no two students' lesson plans will be identical. Topics covered during Musika's voice lessons may include, but are not limited to: proper breath control technique and how to support your voice, how to read music, how to interpret various styles of singing (classical, jazz, pop, etc.), performance tips and techniques, how to overcome stage fright, and most importantly, learning to enjoy music and express yourself through singing!
Taking vocal lessons at any age can be highly rewarding and great fun. Students often take lessons with various aims and goals in mind. Some students want to learn how to increase their vocal range and will have lessons and exercises planned to achieve that particular goal. Some students would like to improve their singing ability in order to feel confident enough to audition for talent shows, competitions or to join a band or choir. It is quite common for students to take vocal lessons purely because they love to sing and want to improve for their own enjoyment.
We recommend beginning Voice lessons at age 11 or 12. The vocal instrument, unlike other instruments, is attached to the body. Starting voice lessons too young, or when the student is not emotionally ready or mature, can lead to vocal damage or straining. Many of our instructors are capable of working with younger students under this age, but it is our opinion, and the opinion of many other Vocal Education professionals, that the student should wait until their body has begun the process of puberty before beginning voice lessons.
