Kirk J

Instruments:

Kirk's musical journey began in Boston, Massachusetts where he began taking violin lessons with Project STEP. Through this program, he learned to play the violin while also learning theory and ensemble playing. In middle school, Kirk switched to the viola and started to take music more seriously. He successfully auditioned for a local touring orchestra at the age of 15 and toured countries such as Italy, Mexico, and Cuba. Kirk currently resides in Mesa, AZ where he maintains an active studio. Throughout all of his years working with schools and children, Kirk has kept a few private students to help them develop and learn the joys of music. His students have won numerous competitions and have learned to play in different genres including classical, jazz, rock, blue grass, and soul.

More Information About Violin Lessons

As you start violin lessons, there are a couple different options you can choose as a way to obtain an instrument. Some students can choose to buy, which would be most useful for advanced, adult players, but most beginning students will choose to rent. Renting can be done on a monthly basis and will provide you will everything you need for your lessons, as far as the instrument is concerned. It is best for children to rent, as they will need to start with a smaller instrument, and work up in size as they grow.
When you choose in home lessons, you are choosing the most convenient way to add music to your life. By having the instructor come to your home you are saving time, money, and energy! Not only is this a convenient option for busy schedules, but it allows you to learn your instrument in the familiar, and comfortable space of your own home. Learning in an environment where you are at ease is beneficial for both children and adults.
Music lessons are tailored to the students specific needs. The teacher will work with each student individually to develope a lesson plan that ensures the most productivity. While working towards the students specific goals, there will be lessons in music theory, how to correctly handle the instrument, and how to develope the students own musicianship. While Musika does not mandate a particular style of teaching, if there is a method you are interested in we will do our best to match you with a teacher that specializes in that area.
We love adult students! We have adults who are complete beginners, some who haven't played their instrument in 10 years, and some who are more advanced students looking to take their skills to the next level. Our teachers have proven methods to get you the results you desire.
Our earliest recommended starting age for violin is 4, although exceptions can certainly be made for a younger student who is capable of handling the strings properly and who has sufficient strength in the fingers and hands. A teacher can help you decide which size instrument to choose depending on the age and height of your child.
