I began my musical education with violin at age five and then with viola at ten. I went to Yewon Arts Middle School and Seoul Arts High School with viola. I won the Music Journal Competition and held my winner recital in Seoul, South Korea at age sixteen. After moved to Orange County, California, I continued my musical education with Iman Khosrowpour and Robert Becker. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance from Chapman University in Orange, California As a performing musician, I have been a violist in many different types of ensembles including chamber orchestras and strings ensemble. I believe in the power of demonstration and playing along with the students. I also encourage students to practice vocal-instrumental coordination when establishing the concepts of musical expression within structures. I adopt some ear training for younger students as they develop a sense of pitch and theoretical knowledge for adults who learn better with checkpoints. I design and adjust learning plans constantly for individual students as they learn and help them with specific goals, long-term and short-term, and have achieved them 100% of the time. Read More

Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest.  With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique.  If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student. My method varies from student to student - It really depends on the students level. For a beginner student, I would focus giving the basic music foundation for violin: posture and bow hold, solid intonation and tone, and good sense of rhythm. More importantly, I teach the student to be aware of how to create a beautiful sound versus a bad sound. Furthermore, I use Hirmaly Violin Scale book for technique and Suzuki Book for the music pieces for beginner students. Read More
