Music shops that sell violas can usually also work out viola rentals. This is best for smaller, short-scale viola that are designed for small children. For adults, either used or new violas will work just fine. The only factor to keep in mind is that used violas are sometimes sold as-is, meaning it may not be in the best condition. Our instructors are familiar with good viola maintenance techniques and can be of assistance.

Topics covered during Musika's viola lessons may include, but are not limited to: how to hold the viola and bow, different bowing techniques: detache, legato, staccatto, how to read music, learning proper finger placement in first position (and higher positions), musicianship skills to aid in playing in tune, hand and finger stength exercises, developing a natural, tasteful vibrato for sustained notes, and most importantly, learn to have fun playing the viola!

We love adult students! We have adults who are complete beginners, some who haven't played their instrument in 10 years, and some who are more advanced students looking to take their skills to the next level. Our teachers have proven methods to get you the results you desire.

Our earliest recommended starting age for viola is 4, although exceptions can certainly be made for a younger student who is capable of handling the strings properly and who has sufficient strength in the fingers and hands. A teacher can help you decide which size instrument to choose depending on the age and height of your child.
