Nicholas C

Instruments:

Nicholas has been a musician in some form or another for as long as he can remember. His musical journey started when he was only six, with a delve into the realm of classical piano. While there he studied under world class child prodigy Josh Cullen. The composers that he studied include Bach, Beethoven, Barton, Hayden and many others. From there he progressed to playing jazz trumpet, studying the Jamey Aebersold method under Paul Finkbeiner, the lead trumpet player for the Paul Keller Ensemble Then at the age of 11, with the help of his grandfather he discovered the guitar. He learned quickly on his old SR guitar. He quickly discovered that he had a natural taste for blues phrasing, and his soloing abilities quickly blossomed. 2 years later, he had formed his first band, Spherical. It was through this band that he found the bass. His journey into the realm of bass, began out of necessity and progressed into love of the bottom end. Since then, he has been collecting basses, playing, living and breathing bass. He now realizes the importance of a funky beat, a subtle line and most important of all A TIGHT GROOVE!!!After a year in Chicago, where he was enrolled as a student in the Columbia College school of Music as a jazz studies student, he dropped out and returned to Detroit to pursue a career as a fulltime musician and teacher. His current musical endeavors include work with; The David Gerald Band, The Cetan Clawson Revolution and AtAverage. During his time as a performer he has shared the stage with groups such as; Tesla, Candlebox, Bret Michaels, The Sick Puppies, 3 Doors Down and many others.

More Information About Trumpet Lessons

Beginner trumpets are relatively cheap and available through many music shops or instrument catalogs. Some music shops can also provide rentals. For the budget-conscious customer, used trumpets are also an option, but it is strongly recommended that the buyer purchase at least a new mouthpiece. Something to look for with a used trumpet is to be sure that the instrument can be taken apart and put together easily and is relatively free of dents. Our trumpet instructors can also help with the selection of an instrument and all the accessories required to keep it in great condition.
Taking trumpet lessons in your home offers a great way to master your skills on the instrument without ever leaving your home! Many students and parents find this very convenient as there is no additional time for travel.
Our teachers create a custom lesson and technique plan for each student. For the most part, lessons will focus around learning how to hold and care for the instrument, how to prepare it for playing, how to read music, sight read, and basic musicianship skills. Students will also focus on mouth position and breath support to play the trumpet, and the location of the valves.
Many adult students choose to take the trumpet, even with no previous experience. Trumpet can be a wonderful instrument to learn for the first time and a lot of progress can be made as long as the student is practicing! Trumpet can be a very satisfying instrument to learn as an adult because it takes a lot of lung capacity and skill to play trumpet.
We suggest starting trumpet lessons at age 7 or 8. A student should be able to hold the instrument correctly, so their fingers must be large enough to do this. Playing trumpet also requires significant lung capacity, which can be difficult for a younger child.
