I'm from New Orleans, La. so playing in the local brass bands truly sparked my interest in the limitless heights the trumpet could take me. My first job out of college was teaching at a charter school where I saw all the students in the school for 9 week periods. Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. From there on out, I use Breeze Easy Trumpet Method, Arban, Clarke, Irons, Bai Lin, Caruso, and Stamp to develop fundamental technique, based on what I think each student needs.
