Overview:

I graduated in 2013, with a BA in the arts with a track in music. I started playing the violin when I was ten years old and never once left it. I joined orchestra all throughout middle school and high school. In college, I decided to join the Mannes community orchestra where I met some wonderful conductors. Currently, I am in the Nyack college collegium ensemble at school. I started performing in different churches and began to play solo with a focus on gospel music and classical music. I began a strong interest in music therapy in 2012, where I decided to pursue a certificate in creative arts therapy with a main focus in music therapy. I hope to get my MA in music therapy.

EXPERIENCE
I began teaching about 9 years ago at student's homes in New York. My Main focus is teaching young children to develop musical perception at a very young age. For older children, I encourage learning music theory, sight-reading and developing a style of performing, or just playing the violin as a hobby. I have experience teaching Individual as well as group lessons. I have taught music group lessons at community settings as well preschool settings. I also have experience teaching special needs children.
METHODS USED
I teach the suzuki method for violin and for piano. I focus on music theory, sight reading, creativity and performance. I also use excercise books for violin such as the Schradieck violin technique, essential elements and Wholfart method for advanced beginners. I first make sure that tension is released and once the tension is released, we move on to playing scales and learning bowing technique. I assign repertoire usually one or two songs for the student to learn. For adult students I try to first find out on what they are interested in playing whether it is jazz, pop, rock or classical, and we move along from there.
LESSON STYLE
It is very rewarding to see how students grow and develop a style of their own. I never like to rush a student, I believe the student should learn at his/ her own pace in a very meaningful way. My philosophy is that every student needs to develop his/her own style of playing and not just go by the book. Lessons should be engaging, fun and education for the student. It is very rewarding to see a student develop a passion for music. I take my time to get to know the student and his/her musical preferences.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
