ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
MM, Arizona State Univeristy, Jazz Performance BM, University of North Texas, Music Theory
Overview:
I am musician who loves to play all styles of music and enjoys performing as often as possible. My background is in jazz and improvisation but have also studied and performed classical, latin, R&B, funk and many other styles. After receiving my Bachelor of Music in Music Theory from the University of North Texas in 2006, I joined Holland America Line as a musician and visited over 175 cities in 60 countries all the while performing music. In 2012, I moved to Tempe, AZ to pursue my Master's degree and graduated in the spring of 2014 in Jazz Performance. I performed in pop and rock groups, salsa ensembles, and jazz ensembles all over the Phoenix metro area, but now live in the Pacific Northwest.
EXPERIENCE
I have taught saxophone, flute, and clarinet to students of all ages for over the past 8 years and have found it best to tailor the lessons to the individual needs of the student while emphasizing the basics of tone production, technique and proper attitude. Recently, I was the saxophone professor at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. I also like to help the student develop time management skills to allow him or her to create a healthy habit of practicing.
METHODS USED
For younger students who are in a school band program, I like to use the materials they use in class and to add outside material they find interesting. I find students are more motivated to practice and develop when we start with something that interests them, and then to expose them to other styles of music later on. For older or more advanced students, I like to focus on aspects of musicianship that will help them be successful musicians, such as ear-training, theory, composition, performance practice, improvisation (if the student wishes) and transcribing.
LESSON STYLE
My goal in teaching is to help the student develop confidence by developing skill as a musician. Once the student realizes how to gain confidence through practice, he or she will create a healthy habit of successful learning that can transfer to any field of education.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
