I am a professional full time Trombonist. At the same time, teaching has always been a big part of who I am - I love teaching. My music careeer has taken me around the world and back but more than that it has given me a wonderful tool of self expression, and for that I am forever greatful. My band performs regularly in Opera houses as well as coffee houses... And to many of these shows we travel together with our young daughter :) (yes, my husband is also in the band). Other than the Trombone I do play the Trumpet as well, and I have over 8 years of Piano under my belt. I feel very confident teaching Trumpet up to advanced level, but only beginner level for Piano. I would love to work with some of the younger students not only on learning to play the Piano but also about the joy that music can give you!
My experiemce teaching goes many years back. I have tought private lessons as well as group lessons, on the upper east side of New York City as well as at the south Bronx and Irvington. In addition to years of teaching music I also have experience teaching Hebrew.
Though I do like to have method books available, I generally fit each lesson plan to the student. Different people learn differently and I like to be sensitive to the student's age, mindset and goals. Making learning fun is certainly a very important aspect of my method, as well as a well rounded approach, that includes reading music, playing by ear, and memorization.
For me, music is much more than a job, it is a way of life and a wonderful tool of self expression. Hearing my students develop and improve their skills week by week is wonderful for me as much as it is important for them. Working on such a skill helps both children and adults not only develop a sense of mastery, but a pathway to their inner self.
