Overview:
After moving from Kansas City, Missouri, I am thrilled to be teaching privately in Bloomfield, Connecticut.  I am a very positive, patient, and kind individual and have been able to sing, perform, and play throughout the United States and Europe. I am a firm believer that anyone can learn to sing and am thrilled that I help my students find their unique, beautiful voices so they can let them out with confidence. I have over 20 years experience teaching voice, music theory, and sight singing privately.
EXPERIENCE
I have performed professionally in opera, operetta, and oratorio across the United States and Europe. I have studied vocal performance at University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, the Mozarteum and Universitaet Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria, and the University of Maine-Orono. I have a BA in German Language & Literature from UMKC, an MS in Organizational Psychology from from UHartford, and also teach foreign languages privately. I performed at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City for 11 consecutive seasons and was co-founder, President, and Artistic Director of Kansas City Metro Opera. I have played trombone in swing bands, marching bands, pit bands, klezmer bands, orchestras, and pit orchestras for over 25 years. I have also conducted and directed many productions in opera and musical theatre as well as directed both small and large choral ensembles.
METHODS USED
All lessons are unique to each student, depending on their needs and desires. We have a lot of fun and I create lesson plans with my students to be sure they are getting the most out of their lessons as possible. Voice: I teach healthy singing. It does not matter what style of music you want to sing, it is most important to be able to sing in a healthy way so you can sing as long as possible! Lessons are fun, creative, and 100% interactive. My students learn to sing with more accuracy, confidence, and strength while learning a vocal technique that builds, strengthens, and improves their unique, natural voice. Students who are in school typically learn to sing in different languages, will learn how to read music, and will learn solo repertoire that will help build their confidence and musicality. Adult students who are in college or out of school will learn the style of music they want to learn the most. We will improve the clarity of tone, solidity of vocal production, breath support and control, and many other vocal techniques. Trombone: Tone, clarity, accuracy of pitch, and good sight reading is essential for trombone students.  We work on building a strong embouchure, consistent breath support and control, excellent posture, and how to read not only notes but rhythms accurately and with flare. Piano: I teach basic piano skills including posture, scales, and simple songs that are good for young, novice students.
LESSON STYLE
I am very relaxed in my teaching style and love the satisfaction of teaching privately. I choose to teach privately due to the heightened intensity of interaction with students and the fact that we can create a process that is uniquely adapted to the needs of each student. I have expectations for my students and they have expectations for me. I love that. I know and understand that if a student does not understand the method, technique, or approach I am trying to teach, it is not the student's fault, it is mine.  Therefore I maintain flexibility in my teaching style and enjoy approaching each lesson as a challenge - and the goal of understanding is always attainable through hard work, patience, and dedication.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
