Overview:
I love to watch singers reach their full potential by helping them find their true singing voice and perform with confidence and freedom!  I began performing at age three and have sung and played different styles and genres for different audiences ever since.  My foundational training is in classical voice, earning my Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Mississippi in 1991.  I was then awarded an Apprenticeship with the Knoxville Opera and a Graduate Teaching Assistantship at the University of Tennessee, where I earned my Masters of Music in Vocal Performance in 1993.  Over the years I have studied different voice teaching techniques so that I can sing and help singers perform any style with a healthy, free sound.  I have performed Opera, Musical Theater, Art Song, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Contemporary Christian, Rock, Pop, Country and R&B and can help you do the same!
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching private voice since 1991.  Along with teaching privately out of my home, over the years I have served on faculty as an adjunct voice professor at the college and university level, and have taught private voice in school districts for their junior high and high school choirs.  My own children study with me and are performing regularly in musical theater productions and choirs.  I love helping singers discover their beautiful, God-given singing voice and watching it blossom as they consistently practice and apply the techniques.  I believe a classical foundation is key to singing with freedom and agility, but I will help a singer in any style or genre.  Singing should be fun and viewed as a gift to ourselves and to others.  I want every singer to enjoy singing with freedom and confidence!
METHODS USED
During our lessons we will address correct breathing and posture and different vocalises that will strengthen and free up the voice, giving the student more power, more range and more freedom/agility.  Singing with freedom is a different path for each singer, and I will prescribe different exercises for each area of the voice we are trying to improve.  You will also be assigned songs: some classical, some musical theater and then whatever genre is your favorite.  The most progress will be seen when these songs are memorized and performed in front of an audience when the time is right.  You will be required to purchase your own sheet music as songs are assigned.
LESSON STYLE
I believe we are most productive when we keep a positive mindset.  I try to let encouragement be the foundation of my teaching.  I truly want you to reach your highest singing potential, which will happen with consistent practice. Each lesson will consist of vocal exercises which should be recorded so that the student can practice with it throughout the week.  And then we will work together to choose songs that will help reinforce your new, healthy technique. I provide a weekly practice log for my students to help them keep track of their personal practice times.  I want students to learn and sing the style of songs that they love, but will also ask students to sing other styles of songs so that their voice will improve to its highest potential.  I will tailor my instruction to the student's wants and needs.

I am a sculptor/paleontologist/songwriter who had no idea how to sing my songs. Musika connected me with Noel C., who has been helping me find my voice. She is a remarkable teacher who displays professionalism and deep knowledge with great passion in every lesson. She tailors my lessons to my strengths and weaknesses, using many techniques and a bag of tricks that includes varied tools to help me advance my abilities and skills as a singer. Quite simply, she has opened up a whole new world for me. I am astonished and grateful, and recommend her highly to anyone really interested in becoming a better singer, or even a singer at all. I don't believe you could find a better teacher. Thank you, Noel!

Noel is amazing. She is helping me to work toward my vocal goals for auditions to several musical theaters. She has helped me choose strong audition pieces and is teaching excellent ways to get the sound I need in a safe and healthy way. She works outside our lessons on new warm ups and new music pieces. She is the best.
