Overview:
Hello! I’m Nick. I’m a lover of all things music, but I specialize in the guitar. I have played guitar since I was 14 years old, and have been quite passionate about it ever since. I grew up mostly self-taught, and playing in heavy rock bands. Once I started college, I realized that music was definitely my life’s calling, and started pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance. I attended Arapahoe Community College and received my Associates of Arts Degree in 2009. I took guitar with Michael Engberg there for two years and also took fundamentals of music, music business, music technology, and a song writing class. I transferred over to Metropolitan State University of Denver and began my Bachelor’s degree sequence under the wing of Alex Komodore. I graduated from Metro in May 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Guitar Performance, and the experience thus far has been amazing. I love to teach and I love to learn about music as well as people who desire to be musicians. I hope to be able to teach as many people in order to keep the love for music and the arts alive in the community.
EXPERIENCE
Up to this point I have taught mostly kids between the ages of 9 and 13. A lot of this experience was through the Community Education Program at Arapahoe Community College. I was hired there as a teacher the summer after I graduated from the school. The other students have been private instruction. I am a travelling instructor, meaning I teach at student’s houses and not in a studio. I am a diverse guitarist who is advanced on both the electric guitar and nylon string acoustic. I can teach from beginner to advanced, and I can teach flat pick, or finger-style. I can also teach theory.
METHODS USED
My methods used all depend on the student. I like to assess the students intentions with the instrument as well as their skill level before creating a unique lesson plan to help them progress efficiently while still enjoying the same eagerness to learn as they did in their first lesson. There is a slightly different method for each person, especially when you have to consider things like if they are playing fingerstyle, or with a pick. Or if they want to learn rock, or be trained classically. I can do all of the above, but each requires a different method.
LESSON STYLE
My lesson style is one-on-one. I like to create an environment where the student can be relaxed, yet focused, in order to get the most out of our lesson time. I like to start with review of the last lesson and any homework assigned for the student to work on. If there are areas where work is still required, we will spend as much time as needed to get those issues resolved before we move on. In order to get a student’s best work, I feel that patience is key. Pushing a student may cause bad habits to form, as well as create a stressful environment, therefore killing motivation. Only once a student shows understanding and fluidity with a concept, will I add something new for them to study.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
