Overview:
Instilling and nurturing a love of music and developing musicianship are at the very heart of why I’m a private voice teacher. I earned my Master of Music Education degree in 2012 from Boston University, which has furthered my love of teaching and given me even more resources to draw from. I am currently singing with Choralis here in D.C. recently performing Beethoven’s 9th Symphony under the baton of Gretchen Kuhrmann. Previously, I’ve sung with the Toledo Opera, the University of Toledo orchestra, and given numerous recitals throughout Ohio.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching lessons part time nearly 20 years ago during my undergrad years, and have been teaching in my home studio ever since. I believe that everyone can learn to sing, that each student is unique, and that singing should be a joy. I use a combination of classical and contemporary music, gearing each piece to a student's interests and capabilities, while also encouraging them to broaden their musical horizons and try out different genres. It's my hope that my students gain a passion for singing to that end I encourage them to participate in competitions, recitals, and auditions.
METHODS USED
With all my students, I emphasize good technique. No matter what the genre or age, singing in a healthful and fun way includes great posture, good breath management, and producing a free and easy sound. I use a variety of different music formats, from classical and musical theater collections, to sheet music of contemporary songs. I've completed all three levels of Somatic Voicework The LoVetri Method which employs vocal science as the basis for developing a great sound and for addressing vocal issues.
LESSON STYLE
I believe that each student has their own unique way of learning, so I tailor my lessons to fit. To help reduce tension that can affect singing, I begin lessons with stretching and breathing practice. This gives the student a chance to unwind from the day and to focus on the lesson. I like to give my students specific practice instructions, so that their home practice is productive and I also believe that immediate feedback is important to help guide a student’s learning. In addition to helping students "find their voice", I believe strongly that growth occurs outside our comfort zone, so I'm always looking for ways to help my students see beyond what they're used to.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
