Overview:
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my enthusiasm about music. I am thankful for every opportunity to teach students about the pure joy of playing music. I believe that playing music is something that everyone can enjoy and benefit from participating in.
EXPERIENCE
I have been playing guitar for 30 years now. I began performing with various bands at the age of 14. I am thankful to have had talented musical mentors (band members, teachers, songwriters, studio musicians, professional musicians) to learn from and grow with over the years. I began teaching guitar back in 1991, while attending Samford University. I have continued to teach over the years since then, both part-time and full-time. I performed with various bands (of my own and joining with others in) throughout high school and college. I performed and wrote songs with various bands professionally and full-time after college for many years. I have also done a good bit of session work and recordings with other musicians and various bands. I am a songwriter and enjoy creating my own music.
METHODS USED
I savor every opportunity to bring my passion for playing guitar to each teaching session. My aim is always to develop each student's strengths and weaknesses in playing; developing their knowledge of the instrument and music; develping their creativity in approaching different types of musical expression; thereby, increasing their love of the instrument and music. I approach teaching with an emphasis on developing a student's ear for music, carefully balanced with learning practical, rudimentary knowledge and musical theory for effective, well-rounded musical development. I teach students how to practice smarter and more efficiently with the time they have available in their own schedules. I believe that good, consistent practice is the key to truly developing a student's musical abilities and potential. I also like to develop each student's abilities to perform in various musical settings: playing along to musical tracks; developing their ear; performing with bands; playing solo excursions; and enhancing their ablities and potential for bringing their skills to potential, future sessions.
LESSON STYLE
I am truly rewarded in seeing my students developing a passion for music and their own musical expression. I believe it's vital to teach each student at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic and attainable goals for my students at each lesson. I enjoy acknowledging progress and accomplishments in each student and I believe it enhances a student's desire to progress and eager to learn more. By discovering what inspires each student uniquely, I can effectively customize my instruction to their own goals with the instrument.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
