Overview:
I have been a guitar instructor for over 40 years. From my own experience I know the importance of finding a teacher that will teach correctly from the start. I learned this the hard way. My first nine years were spent with teachers who didn’t know how to teach the instrument. As a result by my late teens I was so frustrated i almost quit. I had learned so many bad habits that I wasn’t improving and realized that I had to find a teacher that could teach me how to play correctly. After researching the best guitar teachers in New England, I began studying with renowned classical guitarist/teacher Andrew Caponigro in Boston Massachusetts. Andy let me know that he could help rid the bad habits, however, in order to do that I was basically going to have to start from the beginning again. I made the commitment and traveled 6 hours a week from Connecticut to take private lessons. I eventually moved to Boston to continue four years of apprenticeship. Andy’s teaching method was, and still is revolutionary. His method and approach saved me as a guitar player and musician, I began to improve exponentially, and at the same time accumulated the knowledge needed to teach others how to play the instrument correctly. Although this decision set me back a few years, in retrospect this was one of the best decision I have ever made. The only regret I have is not having found a good teacher from the start. As a teacher I am now committed to teaching students correctly, step by step from the start so they can avoid the pitfalls I made as a beginning guitar student. Please read on to learn more about what I can offer as a teacher.

METHODS USED
I lean heavily on right and left hand technique. I teach finger style/Classical and flat-picking. With great guitar technique they can learn how to play any kind of music. I teach exercises that help improve all aspect of playing. I come from a classical background, however, my teachers taught me how to improvise and write music. It is wonderful to be able to play by ear and read music. Many students are stuck on the page and can only read music. Some want to learn how to read, some have no desire to read at all. Sometimes they don’t know what they want and I have to help them find out. This is where my life coaching skills come in. When you listen without judgment we will hear want they and need.
LESSON STYLE
I am a very involved teacher. I love to have fun and I can be very serious. I love spend time with my students. I try to get more from them than they think they have. It’s really all about the relationship between the student and teacher. This is even more important than learning music. A happy life is about having good relationships with people. What good is anything if one doesn’t have good relationships? That’s really what the student teacher relationship is all about. Teaching how to have good relationships. That’s the soil hat grows the garden. Have a good garden and you can raise the best fruit. I am so fortunate to have great students. They are great people and good musicians…they challenge me in every way. They are a dream come true for me.

My son and I both take lessons with Micheal. My son started on the ukulele and recently started the guitar. He is excellent with children. Very patient and very intuitive to the child's ability. He is also an excellent teacher for adults. I had not touched my guitar in several years and in a couple months not only to I remember everything I forgot but I'm learning many new techniques and am a much better player than I've ever been.

Could not be more impressed with Michael. His knowledge, skill, desire to teach are evident each lesson. I would recommend him to ANY level player to learn and improve.

My son is very enthusiast to learning with Michael. Now that he has had a few lessons, he is doing the recommended practice schedule that his instructor has recommended. My son appreciates Michaels teaching style and feels very comfortable taking lessons with him.
