I graduated from SUNY Purchase where I received my Bachelor's in Music Composition. I've performed all over the country with my original indie folk songs, mainly focusing my touring efforts on the SouthEast over the past few years. I've also worked with children in various settings for the past 15 years. I've worked in daycare, pre-K, have babysat, and have led my own original Music and Movement classes for 3-5 year olds. Most recently, I've worked with special needs high school students as a Teacher Assistant.
I started teaching voice while at Purchase College and then focused on performing and writing, and came back to teaching last year. I use the techniques I've learned from my vocal teachers along the way, as long as my own ideas and perspectives on healthy, correct ways to sing your best. I believe strongly in teaching technique and basic theory in addition to singing whole pieces and performing. To me, every aspect of singing is enjoyable and I try to bring that sense of positivity and encouragment to my lessons.
For guitar (beginners), I use Mel Bay's Modern Guitar book. For vocalists interested in jazz, I'll use The Real Vocal Book for material, and to teach out of, I'll use my beginner piano and guitar books for sight reading, and teach my own techniques from memory. I can work on any song the student might want to learn. I aim to work with the students at whatever level they’re at. I also have experience using music and movement in therapeutic settings with people with disabilities, and love using songwriting as a tool and therapeutic modality, as well.
