Overview:
Hi, I'm Josh! I've been involved in music since I was 11 years old. When I was 15, I began to focus on guitar and by 17 knew that I would be pursuing a career in music. I attended Manhattanville College for guitar a few years before switching his focus to the Chapman Stick and being presented with an opportunity to perform with his old band And The Traveler. With And The Traveler, I began gaining notoriety for my playing around the American Northeast region, eventually leading to becoming the youngest Stick Enterprises featured artist in 2013 for both my playing and his instructional YouTube series “Stick Science.” I also taught at the Northeast Stick Seminar 2014 alongside Greg Howard and Brett Bottomley. In the summer of 2014, I moved to Boston, released a solo album, and formed GEPH with fellow Stickist John Tyler Kent and drummer Josh Merhar, where the three of us immediately began making waves, releasing a debut album in March of 2016. Riding the success of our first album, GEPH managed to fundraise nearly $10,000 to record and mix our upcoming album. This year, we've gone on a big regional tour with Philly based friends In The Presence of Wolves (opened for acts like Alice in Chains, Ghost and Stone Temple Pilots), released our album to widespread acclaim in July of 2018, and have been flown across the country to perform in progressive rock festivals. On my own, I opened an online-based Chapman Stick and tap guitar school in 2017 called “Tap Theory,” an evolution of Stick Science that was expanded to include much more content and has begun to pick up steam in the tap guitar community. I've also begun working in the indie game field, and have been commissioned to do the soundtrack and sound effects for a few upcoming games. I also occasionally gigs on Stick with Silver Arrow Band, a New England based top 40s wedding group, as well as gigging solo in my area. I also record extensively and have been featured as a guest on a number of albums in a variety of styles.
EXPERIENCE
I've been teaching since before I leaving school and have worked consistently with students of all ages over the past 5 years.  I studied jazz and classical guitar in college, and have continued my studies with world class private teachers since I left. I try to pass to each of my students not only a good repertoire of music and techniques, but also a strong understanding of the instrument itself to help them truly find their own voice.  I really enjoy teaching and am always looking for more students.  It's a point of pride to see my students grow as musicians and help foster a passion that I share.  Besides, who wouldn't like a job where they can discuss what they love all day?
METHODS USED
First, we'll talk about your goals - do you want to play at open mics? Do you want to learn jazz? Do you want to play something nice for your spouse? Next, I'll want to determine your experience level on the instrument and get a feel for your style to better tailor our lessons to you. This will likely be me asking you a few music questions and requesting that you play something for me. At that point, I usually have a pretty good idea of where you're at and how to progress and then it's just having fun while you learn!
LESSON STYLE
I want to foster a love and understanding of the instrument in my students.  Therefore, I always make sure to pace my lessons with each student according to them.  This means I set realistic goals for them and help guide them to accomplishing these goals themselves.  These accomplishments will help fuel the desire to progress, and make my students hungry for more.  By finding and encouraging the musical interests of my students, I can keep the lessons both fun and informative. In short, my main goal is that you have fun while improving on your instrument. This means lessons are tailored to your tastes and skill level. Like jazz and want to learn how to shred over rhythm changes? Cool! Never played an instrument before and want to learn? I got you!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
