Overview:
I am a Grammy Nominated Music Educator who combines his intensive formal music training with over 30 years of professional performance experience to create customized curriculums designed for rapid growth and sustained interest by my students. I make each lesson an enjoyable journey of self-discovery and accomplishment. I show my students of all ages from beginning to advanced, how to make Music with their Instument, which is more FUN than being taught to just play the Instrument. Instruments Taught: Saxophones, Guitars, Clarinets, Flutes, Piano Keyboards, Voice, Percussion and Recorder Subjects Taught: Music Theory, Sight-Reading, Sight-Singing, Ear Training, Music History, Music Business, Composition, Arranging and Songwriting
EXPERIENCE
I have been a successful Music Educator for over 30 years beginning in High School as a Student/Instructor and on up to the present day as a long term veteran of Musika, LLC. I am uniquely qualified to handle a multitude of learning situations because of his broad practical knowledge base and my multi-instrument skill sets. By following a unique methodology, the ability to play any piece of music set before them is just one of the many skills students will quickly master. As a Bandleader, my ability to teach is indispensible. It enables me to communicate intricate and complex musical ideas accurately and concisely to his fellow professionals in addition to quickly resolving any technical issues about equipment or performance. I have performed and/or toured with the likes of: James Brown, Al Green, Cuba Gooding Sr., Keb Mo, Chaka Kahn and Ike Turner Sr., and many other well- established Recording Artists in the music industry.
METHODS USED
1. Lessons are more enjoyable and are retained better when students are shown how to  learn  to play music with their chosen instrument as opposed to being taught to play an instrument. 2. All new concepts should be put to practical use immediately after they are learned  for better memory and retention. 3. Music Theory concepts are embedded throughout the learning process. 4. The unique Learning Style(s) of the Student dictates the primary focus of the lessons. 5. Lessons should never be more than 45 minutes or less than 30 minutes. 6. Primary Method Books Used: Rubanks; Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced for Saxophone, Flute and Clarinet. Mel Bays; Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced for Guitars.
LESSON STYLE
Lessons are light, upbeat and informal, with many opportunities for parent participation if desired (when applicable). Students are encouraged to experiment with their instruments and to pursue their favorite musical styles. Adult Students are eligible for Performance Field trips and other learning opportunities  at no extra cost. My style of teaching is holistic in that I strive to be aware of the students needs before, during and after the lesson. Students don't care about how much you know. They want to know how much you care.
