Overview:
Greetings! I'm so honored that you have visited my page in search of music. A bit about me... I'm passionate about music. I've played piano for over 20 years, and I thrive off of the opportunity to be with others in music. I graduated 2009 from Immaculata University with a Bachlor's of Arts, a focus in music therapy. I'll be graduating in May 2015 with my Master's in Music Therapy. My philosophy is based on building a musical foundation, providing a fun and inspirational environment.
EXPERIENCE
I've worked with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults using my skills as a music therapist. As a student, you should expect opportunities to express yourself in music, find enjoyment with the arts, exceed your own expectations, and experience continual learning. I emphasize learning foundational skills, practice, practice, growth, practice, learning, experiencing, listening, practice, and exploring. Did I mention practice...? :) Consistency is key in music. I've found that explorationg of styles helps keep students interested and makes for a better learning environment. I'm so excited to speak with you regarding your passion!
METHODS USED
I enjoy teaching students at the beginner's level. Generally, I start with the foundamentals and use Hal Leonard. Throughout this process, I enjoy talking about what kind of music interests you and would love to build upon that repertoire. As you progress, I will introduce pieces that are more challenging (thus more rewarding).
LESSON STYLE
Dialogue! Our lessons are based on our communication. We will, together, set realistic goals and expectations. I encourage and motivate students through positive affirmations and acknowledging your achievements. I am also aware of difficulties and will help you through those. As a music therapist, I have additional/advanced skills to be aware of your feelings and work through your experiences. I am able to adapt to your learning style.
