Overview:
I am a passionate and motivated teacher who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I hold a BA in Music and a teaching certification K-12 in Music. I enjoy performing as well and have performed in the community and professionally. I work with individual students as well as groups music lessons and choral directing. I also work with individuals with developmental disabilities as a case manager and a must director. I enjoy writing music as well and have written music and lyrics to original songs, some with flute or sax accompaniment.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching music since 2000 trough individual lessons and group instruction. I gained further expereince as the director of children choirs and the Music Director at The Bridge. I have developed music and drama programs for children, including a flute teaching method in order to make learning fun and successful. I am looking to have that method published, possibly through online-live classes, in the future. I have been performing music since I was a child. I grew up singing in church and school choirs and playing in my school band. I continued in High School in the Band, Jazz Band, Choir and Show Choir. In college I pursued a duel degree in Counseling and Music. My music degree included Music History, Performance, Theory, and Conducting. I performed in the band as First Chair Flute and in the Chorale, Chamber Choir and Chapel Choir. I have been a member of various concert bands, though unfortunately there is not one in my are that I can currently join, or I would. I do perform solo flute and vocals at events. I was a member of the Bridgewater State University Alumni Chamber Choir. In addition to music, I have also been involved in theater and performance groups. I have performed with famous actors and musicians at the Annual Fundraising Galas at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp and at The Kennedy Center for Perfoming Arts in honor of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward in 1992. I had a staring cast role in "Godspell" in 1998 at Assumption College and was in the chorus for other productions, including "A Chorus Line". In 2004 I had a staring role "The Queen of Bingo" in Boston, MA. I performed with Potentials Unlimmited, a mixed ability performing group. I have taught summer camp and afterschool programs in Music and Drama, and I continue to work with local programs. I also teach music and lead a chorus at the adult day program that I work at with individuals with developmental disabilities.
METHODS USED
For beginner students, if they are enrolled in a music program at their school, I will use the method they are provided augmented by music and theory I have developed. For Flute students, I have found that many band methods, which are what many public schools use, are not written for flute, but rather are transposed (or translated if you think of music as a language). My method teaches for success. My main concern is that students enjoy what they are doing as it will foster continued interest, a willingness to practice, and success.  For intermediate and advansed students, I will work with them on band/orchestra, SEMSBA, and District pieces. I also like to add in other pieces. One company that I like to use is Rubank/Hal Leonard. They make methods from Elementary to Advanced. For vocal students, I will work with a number of different pieces dependant upon skill and interest. I will work on choral, SEMSBA, and District music as well.
LESSON STYLE
I consider myself to be a positive person who loves to laugh. I feel that music is an expression of oneself, so learning should be fun and be full of success. For beginners, I set small goals to start then add on more as I see thae student can handle more. For intermediate and Advanced students, I challenge them, but also make sure they are playing/singing things they like. I don't like to be bogged down in one genre, so I encourage my students to explore music, classical, baroque, modern, rock, pop, rap, whatever they feel good in. I help students find their style and best potential. I hope to foster a love in music, and bring out the musician in all of them.
