ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School Bachelor's Degree from the Manhattan School of Music.
Awards:

While at the Juilliard School I was the recipient of the Gluck Community Service Fellowship, which allowed me to give outreach performances in schools, hospitals, and other communities in the NYC region.  I have made world premier recordings as well as recital debuts at Weill Hall, Carnegie Hall.

Overview:
I am originally from San Diego, CA, and began playing the flute in my elementary school band.  While growing up in San Diego I served as the principal flutist of the San Diego Youth Symphony, and played with local community orchestras. In 2003 I moved to NYC to pursue my Bachelor's Degree at the Manhattan School of Music, after graduating in 2007 I entered the Master's Degree program at The Juilliard School, and finished my degree in 2010. Currently, I perform as a freelancer throughout the NYC region, as well as teach.
EXPERIENCE
I have taught students of all levels and ages, primarily students in the age range of 9-21, although I have had students of all ages.  In addition to teaching flute at P.S. 7, I travelled to Salvador, Brazil in 2009 and 2010 to work with the students enrolled in the "Neojiba" program, which provides instruments and teaching to low-income youth.
METHODS USED
I tailor the methods I use for each student.  My training has been primarily classical, but I am comfortable teaching and performing other styles of music.  I use various technique, tone, and articulation exercises.
LESSON STYLE
I want each lesson to be exciting and productive for each student.  I have different methods for each student's particular needs and desires, but the primary goal is that the student has fun and enjoys their lessons. For students who would like to learn classical music I have extensive training in repertoire.  I also play duets with students, and play along with recordings.  I this helps students to learn skills like intonation and sight reading, but primarily they are just really fun!   My lesson style is fun and productive.

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
