Overview:
I grew up in a musical family. My mother is a professional violinist and teacher and all of my sisters and brother and I learned to play various instruments from a very early age. My mother and father sacrificed a lot for their children to have music lessons as they are quite expensive for the lower middle class family But they believed it was worth it as music lessons boost brain power and help with the development of fine motor skills and mathematics, even speech. I loved music from the beginning and being a shy child, I found solace in music and could play for nature in the park or in the fields and just be myself. I hope that I can help share the joy and beauty that music brings to life with you or your child.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching private lessons for 11 years. I taught in a school in India for the past three years. I attended the Prague and Czech Budweiss conservatories in the Czech Republic. I graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy.
METHODS USED
My approach to teaching varies with the age level of each student. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. For students who wish to excel in their school band, a more practical approach with technique specific warm-ups and exercises seems to be the best in general.
LESSON STYLE
I try to have a very positive approach to teaching. I believe that if a student is told what they are doing wrong constantly, they will feel like they aren't good enough for the instrument, or they will lose interest. I instead focus on telling them what they are doing right, and offer suggestions on what they need to improve on.
