Overview:
I am teacher who works to inspire students to really go for it, and use the guitar and bass to express themselves! I approach the music from the students desires and favorite music so that always sustains your passion and interest, and makes and keeps learning and practicing fun. I like all kinds of rock, blues, and jazz, and love to teach songs, and song writing as well.
My emphasis is on self expression and performance, and then reading, theory and technique. My teaching technique uses a "fun" approach, coupled with learning simple techniques,. to inspire
I work with many kids! I have a n ongoing workshop called ROXSKOOL for kids performance-- also, I have done a lot of work with autistic, blind, and physically handicapped...also good with attention disorders.
Many of my young (age 8 to 10) have stayed with me for 6 years plus.. I guarantee great results, and great service!!
EXPERIENCE
I am a graduate of BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC in Boston. I have travelled on the road with many rock, blues, and Rhythm and blues bands.. I have been onscreen as a musician in films like Wayne's World, and the Beverly Hillbillies, and I have com[osed music for those and other films. Currently I am coaching and recording and writing songs and producing kid's bands in Los Angeles.. teachoing now for over 20 years.
I offer training in performance, and execution, theory, songwriting, ear training, harmony.
METHODS USED
Whatever the student is interested in, that is the direction we go in, whether specific or not.. we start with your interests.. beginners, we learn songs, intermediates.. scales, and soloing, advanced.. reading, theory, and composition. I am very song oriented, and we choose based upon the students taste, the songs to learn.. Then we do a lot on practice habits, repetition, metronome use, timing, right hand relaxation, posture, left hand correction. We do start with very simple songs that build the student's confidence rapidly.
LESSON STYLE
Fun!, Fun!, Fun!.. Methodically working on what works,,, right hand development. Repetition, and uncovering blocks to learning.. Learning simple songs that take s a few days at most to master, in turn, creates confidence.
Music Theory and ear training are in the later stages of education, as i feel one of the most important steps is to learn "by rote". Repetition, and timing are the two most important aspects of playing any musical instrument.
Also I spend a lot of time on learning to focus attention, which is obviously a help in many other aspects of growth and development..school, sports, etc.
