I currently teach and direct the guitar program at a Fine Arts Magnet School. I have taught guitar formally for 20 years and have also been a Band Director for 10 Years. I graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Music Education and recieved a Master of Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. I am currently accepting a limited number of students at my home studio in Pearland, TX. I have an extensive musical background with experience in theory, jazz, popular music.
I have taught a wide range of ages from 8-75 years old. I am able to teach a wide variety of musical styles, also including music theory, composition and ear training. If you need help with solo/ensemble music for region or your are just looking to learn guitar for fun, I can help you achieve your goals. I enjoy watching students succeed. My musical styles include, jazz, classical, popular and blues but I am pretty versatile and have the knowledge to teach many styles. I usually teach by classical theory but have taught tab and by wrote, it all depends on what the student prefers.
I have a variety of methods that I use to teach students. I have used many Hal Leonard's band and guitar books, I use a wide variety of materials so that the students can achieve their goals. There is always new material coming out and I will also write my own technical exercises if the student needs them. Beginning Classical Guitar by Hal Leonard is a specific example of one of the method books that I use for the Classical Method.I incorporate these methods on what the student wants to achieve.
I enjoy seeing my students be successful. I am very accommodating to the variety of learning styles out their so I am very flexible in my teaching styles. The style that best suites the student is essential for success. Some students are visual learners, some need more activity or rewards for motivation. These are all avenues that I have available to make sure you are successful to achieve all your musical goals. I am very patient and understanding while helping students progress to meet their goals.
