ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Bachelor of Music Theory and Composition, University of Maryland, Minor in Piano  Credential, San Francisco State University,K-12 Full and Clear Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education, Minor in Voice, State of Nevada Teaching License

Overview:
I was born with a natural affinity for music and have dedicated my entire life to all aspects of music; from composing and performing to producing events and films.Having been educated since high school in the field of music, I went on to graduate from The University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Music Theory and Compostion Degree, and continued my education receiving my teaching credential from San Francisco State University where I minored in Voice. I am highly social and greatly enjoy the company of my students of all ages. I produce two recitals per year for my students. I have been performing professionally for decades and currently work for The Mark Castro Band.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching professionally in the Bay Area about 30 years ago. I have taught in a variety of settings includings classes, group lessons, in music stores, for school districts, at students' homes and in my own private studio. Every person learns differently and I am highly skilled at detecting this and using it to my students' advantage. My recitals not only present individual pieces, but also group works that encourage working together with other musicians which is a highly rewarding benefit of music.
METHODS USED
I believe that a strong foundation is essential for steady progress and confident performance. A comprehensive approach is my preference. Therefore, when I teach piano, I prefer Faber and Faber Piano Adventures paired with A Dozen a Day for added technique. Since many students in this school district are in band or orchestra, I usually use Essential Elements for Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds. I spend a reasonable amount of time preparing my students for our recitals and many of them join in the group songs, which have included "What a Wonderful World", "Happy", and currently "The Theme From Midnight Cowboy".
LESSON STYLE
Music is my gift. I am blessed with a natural ability which I have dedicated my life to learn, cultivate and nurture. To share this through teaching is rewarding. I teach students of all ages and levels. We have two recitals per year, which are unique and fun because of our wide variety of instruments and our group songs. My introductory lesson is full of information to build a foundation on which further knowledge can stand. We work through lesson books and as we approach recital time, we focus more on specific skills. After recital, we review and then begin again at our next level.
