Overview:
I earned my Associates Degree in 1984, in Music Performance, from Community College of Rhode Island. I've been playing bass guitar and double bass, professionally for over 35 years in various bands, groups, orchestras and with international stars such as Ray Charles and Andrea Bocelli. I've played in locations such as Boston, New York, Pittsburgh, Maryland, New Jersey, and as far west as Chicago an Detriot. I have performed with several classical orchestras, and as principal bassist with The Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra.
EXPERIENCE
I started my teaching carreer in 1994, teaching doublebass and bass guitar. Two years later I began offering guitar lessons. In 1998 I offered cello lessons. My passion for teaching has grown over the years, and brought me great pleasure helping beginner students gain skills, confidence, and a sense of pride and accomplishment in learning to successfully play a musical instrument. I been able to teac advanced bass students techniques that increased their playing skills and understanding of their instrument and music in general. My greatest pleasure was helping a young, nervous, shy, and self conscious young boy, and over time, with his efforts and my guidance, was able to apply and get accepted into music college. The joy and satisfaction I get from watching a novice student gain confidence and satisfaction playing songs they love for their own enjoyment, or for friends, while having fun, is beyond description!
METHODS USED
For bass guitar I use the Mel Bay Bass Guitar Method which takes a student from creating rocking bass lines to building kicking bass licks from chord changes.Double Bass students will have classical training, techniques to build a solid, warm tone, use of the bow, and orchestral repertoire, including solo pieces. For guitar I  use the Mel Bay Chord Guide Method, which shows on easy to understand positions for chord playing. For beginner cello students, I use the Strickly Strings Comprehensive String Method to learn how to use a bow and proper finger position and intonation along with building a solid, beautiful tone .
LESSON STYLE
No matter which instrument I give lessons on, my overall goal and desire is that the student first, has FUN, second, sees themselves progressing on their instrument, and thirdly, get to experience the joy, satisfaction and confidence one gains in playing the songs they enjoy themselves. To see smiles appear on faces of students, and hear how excited they were the first time they played a popular song they know and love well in front of some else. These are some of the major joys, passions, and reasons for my love of teaching....Happy smiling faces of my students!!!
