I am from a family of five generations of professional musicians, and my daughter just earned her master's degree in Piano Performance/Pedagogy, SMU; now a piano teacher at St John's in Houston.
I love children and adult students, and work well with both. My passion is teaching, and music my forte'.
Debra has over twenty years experience teaching private lessons. I am also a former US Naval Chapel Director, and a former school Music Teacher, grades K-12. This experience has afforded me the working knowledge of developmental stages, though my lessons are tailored to meet the goals and motivation of each student. I have extensive performing experience with students, including Symphony and Community.
Debra teaches traditional methods to engage students in a variety of styles.
Graduate studies taught me how to implement "Mastery Learning", which is a method in which I assess constantly, and then offer musical repertoire and technical studies at the peak level of student interest and ability, which is where the brain is most engaged with learning.
Simply said, motivation and challenge are my main concerns, and I work at keeping the student challenged, yet also feeling success all at once. Your success is my reward, truly!
