Awards:
Honorable Mention, Oct 2008, South Carolina Music Teachers Association Young Artist Division
Overview:
A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, I began playing piano at the age of 5. Throughout my childhood I took private lessons in piano and voice. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC and a Master of Music degree from USC, where I studied under pianists Marina Lomazov and Joseph Rackers. My work with students of all ages spans far beyond teaching, having worked for two summers as a staff collaborative pianist at Interlochen Center for the Arts in northern Michigan and playing for numerous children's masses and concerts. While I enjoy the opportunity to perform, my primary pursuit is teaching, using my professional experience to educate students by exploring the beauty of music. I teach students their favorite songs, as well as thefundamentals and techniques needed to achieve their musical goals.
EXPERIENCE
I've been teaching piano for over ten years, and my students have gone on to make piano a life-long hobby, play in recitals and at church, or just enjoy playing for friends and family. My objective as a music educator is to instill in students a lifelong passion for music. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play basic melodies and as time goes on you'll begin to play your favorite tunes comfortably. I love working with students of all ages and levels, and I can't wait to meet you!
METHODS USED
Faber, Alfred, Bastien, Dozen a Day curriculum, Russian-based technique, Alexander-based technique, Taubman-based technique
LESSON STYLE
Because every student is different, I take a very individualized approach to teaching, working to adapt to the needs and learning style of each student.
