More Information About Saxophone Lessons

Saxophone students typically begin on alto sax. Yamaha, Selmer, and Jupiter are good brands to start. For reeds we would recommend a Rico 1.5 or 2. As the player becomes more comfortable he or she may switch to reed with a higher strength or 3 or 4. For this reason, Musika recommends consulting the teacher before buying reeds in bulk.
Lessons in home are a great way to improve your saxophone skills and save time and money. Taking lessons in your home reduces travel time and expenses and allows you to express yourself musically in the space you know best.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student. Topics covered during Musika's sax lessons may include, but are not limited to: correct embouchure formation, how to appropriately shape your lips around the mouthpiece, proper breathing and posture, how to develop a solid tone in low and high registers, how to hold, assemble, and clean the instrument properly, fingerings for notes, and techniques for developing quick finger action, how to read music: rhythms, note names, dynamics, etc, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the saxophone!
Saxophone can be an extremely satisfying instrument to study at any age. Most adults, even without experience, find they are able to progress quickly with consistent instruction and focused practice. The saxophone is great instrument for solo playing or in a group setting.
The saxophone is a fairly durable instrument and can be a great instrument for a young player. However, the student does need to be big enough to hold the instrument, and have the lung capacity to create a supported sound. New players should start on alto sax.
