I always like to incorporate music theory and aural skills into my lessons as I believe those subjects are a must in becoming a well-rounded musician. I believe that my students should have high expectations and have fun while completing goals. I make sure lessons are fun and progressive. I hold my students to high expectations so when they meet their goal they actually kill two birds with one stone (ex: figuring out a difficult passage in school music while progressing in technique exercises). Music education creates students that leave the classroom with an appreciation for music, creating an environment where students not only want to enjoy music, but also have the desire to create and the passion to educate others through music. This becomes increasingly difficult to achieve, however, when music education is often not even remotely accessible. Beginning students for woodwinds (flute, clarinet, saxophone) usually start with the Essential Elements book. As they advance the next books are usually Breeze Easy book 2 followed by the Rubank Intermediate and Advanced Methods. Advanced students will break into instrument specific methods. Flute with use methods such as The Melodious Studies and Pares scales books, clarinets with use the Klose books and Saxophone students will use Ferling and Klose studies. Students wishing to study jazz methods will use either the Jim Snidero or Walt Weiskopf methods. Read More
