More Information About Saxophone Lessons

Students interested in learning saxophone should start with the alto sax. As the student progresses they may switch to soprano, tenor, or bass sax. Reliable brands to rent include Jupiter, Yamaha, and Selmer. Sax students will also need to purchase reeds. Musika recommends a Rico 1.5 or 2.
Lessons in home are a great way to improve your saxophone skills and save time and money. Taking lessons in your home reduces travel time and expenses and allows you to express yourself musically in the space you know best.
Your saxophone teacher will concentrate on developing a nice tone in all registers, how properly shape your lips around the mouthpiece, correct breathing and posture, and techniques for improving quick finger action. If you are interested in a particular style, we can match you with an instructor who has experience teaching that genre.
Adults students often notice signicant progress on saxophone. Our teachers work with all levels, older students who are new to the instrument, or adults who formerly played and are now hoping to get back in the groove. Most students are surprised to find how quickly it all comes back!
Most saxophonists begin in 4th grade. Unlike the piano or specific string instruments, it is not a good idea to start sax before the student enters elementary school. The student does need to have the strength to appropriately hold the instrument, and have the lung capacity to blow into the sax and produce a supported sound.
