George has been a church organist and director for 46 years. He is currently the assistant organist/accompanist at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Naperville, Illinois where he works with Matthew Sprinkle who is the director of sacred music. Mr. Felty is also set up at the church to teach private piano students in the Naperville, Wheaton, and western suburbs of Chicago. In 2011, Mr. Felty graduated from Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois with a Master of Church Music Degree where his major instrument was organ. Dr. Steven Wente was his former teacher. Prior to starting at St. Peter and Paul Catholic, he was the former organist and assistant director at First United Methodist Church in La Grange, Illinois where he worked with Gary Wilhelm. In addition to the Master of Church Music Degree, he also holds a Master of Music Degree in organ performance from Norfolk State University in Virginia where he studied with Dr. Allen Shaffer, retired professor of music.

Daniel B

Instruments:

I currently work as a teacher, singer, actor, and organist in Chicago. I'm teaching piano and electronic music courses full-time at Kenwood Academy, a CPS High School. I graduated from the Chicago College of Performing Arts with degrees in music education and vocal performance.  Apart from my teaching, I stay active as a performer in the Chicago music scene. I have completed vocal training programs with groups like Chicago Opera Theater and the College Light Opera Company (CLOC). I regularly appear in operas and store front theater productions. As a pianist/organist, I regularly play for church services and rehearse choirs. I'm particularly devoted to composing, producing and performing new art music.  I love to read, ride my bike, and teach new student-musicians!

Pei-Yun L

Instruments:

I enjoy playing music with other people, so I would love to share this joyful experience with my students. In 2007, I came to the States for pursuing the Masters degree in Boston and Doctoral degree in Madison. I have had lots of performance opportunity and community engagements. After the engagement with Civic Orchestra of Chicago, I am now excited to bring the joy of playing music to more people.

Jillian G

Instruments:

My love of music and motivation come together in teaching voice and I couldn't be happier with my students! I am a graduate of Belmont University's Classical Vocal Performance program, where I studied and sang opera in the beautiful city of Nashville. After graduating from Belmont, I pursued my Masters in Music in Music Theatre at Oklahoma City University. While in school, I was able to teach voice and tutor students in music theory and aural skills. Teaching has become one of my greatest loves. Seeing my students succeed brings me as much joy as performing does, if not more, and I would love to be a part of your musical pursuits. I specialize in musical theatre, classical, and popular music.

More Information About Piano Lessons

We suggest students purchase a piano or keyboard for their lessons, as they will need to practice every day in order to develop their skills on the instrument. We recommend a keyboard with weighted keys, as this will feel most similar to an actual piano. An actual piano will have 88 keys, but most keyboards start from 65 keys and go up from there. Common keyboard brands found at music stores are Yamaha, Casio, and Korg. Many keyboard sets will come with a case, stand, headphones, and may even offer recording features for recording your own playing.
In home lessons are what 90% of our students request. Not only does this provide a convenient means to study music, but we also notice no difference in the quality of lessons done in home or in studio. They are typically structured the same. The main benefit of in-home lessons is the reduction in travel time to another location, and additionaly the student may be able to focus better in your own home since they are familiar with it. Piano lessons in the home offer a practical choice for your family for learning the skill of playing a musical instrument.
There is no specific teaching method that all Musika teachers adhere to. All students will have lessons customized to their needs and goals as lessons progress. If there is a specific teaching style you are looking for, we will keep that in mind as we make your teacher match. Many teachers will have a few method books that they use for lessons, which will include exercises and techniques for practicing. All lessons will cover aspects of learning notes, proper technique, ear training, and how to read music.
We offer piano lessons for students of all ages, including adults. Whether you are a complete beginner on the instrument, or you have not played the piano in many years, our knowledgable instructors can definitely assist you in your journey of developing your musical skills.
Piano lessons for children will focus on learning the fundamentals of the technique of the instrument and learning to read music and rhythm. We suggest beginning piano lessons no earlier than age 4, due to the attention span of the child, as well as the strength they have in their hands for playing. Piano Lessons will offer an excellent introduction to learning music for a child. Music theory and musicianship skills will also be taught during the lessons. Piano lessons are a great choice for introducing the art of music to your child!
